I'm not Jimbo... Don't tell others to "enlighten themselves" and expect them to do what you want, and certainly don't dehumanize and blame soldiers for a politician's questionable actions. I agree that Bush is a horrible president, but he's gone in another 6 months, mkay?
What are you babbling about? You're commenting on your very own statements, regarding your very own problems, in your very own country. The actions of the people bear directly on the actions of the government. A mindless nation breeds an irresponsible government; and that's you, Jimbo.

Please don't call me Jimbo. My name's not Jim or James or anything like that, and I really don't get what you're trying to prove by calling me that. It's really making you sound immature, and on an intellectual forum it just sounds ridiculous. If you really feel like throwing random names around at people, go to another forum please. It's also rude and prejudice to categorize me as mindless because of where I live. Such generalizing and extreme labeling makes you no better than the population you seek to criticize. I'm well aware I'm discussing issues in my own country, thank you very much. The current war that my country is engaged in and the administration that supports it is indeed unpopular (I myself do not support either), but you have to understand that after a direct attack on our soil many citizens were extremely concerned with homeland security. The reaction that the Bush administration made was indeed unwise and irresponsible, but this does not mean that our entire nation is mindless.

Someone attacks you, and you randomly retaliate against the most likely culprit? Your concern for homeland security has infringed upon the homeland security of other sovereign nations, without provocation or justification. As a nation, you have been duped, but as a democracy you are all complicit in the actions of your government. And let's not sing the praises of the troops. Unless conscription is the law of the day, these people signed on for the job. The many fiascos that have come to light only prove that they are nothing more than a bunch of 'kill & thrill' seeking mercenaries, with no code or honour. Reports of rape, pillaging, murder, torture, and the list goes on. Semper Fi! A government of the people, by the people, for the people is nothing but a bright shining lie. The people are asleep, and the politicians are running the show with virtually carte blanche, justifying the unjustifiable, spurred on by their trigger-happy, warmongering geniuses, who think that a Hershey bar and Hot Wheels can make everything alright. And Jimbo, you're on the net; so learn to talk the talk, and stop whining.

I find it likely that just about any nation with the ability to retaliate against an attack on their soil would in fact do so and would do so against the "most likely culprit." The invasion of Afghanistan and the following assault on the Taliban is/was entirely justifiable to this day, the Iraq war has nothing to do with 9/11, and was not invaded for being a "likely culprit."
And let's not sing the praises of the troops. Unless conscription is the law of the day, these people signed on for the job. Many of which reports are later found to be false and naturally many are true, of course, that there are murderers and rapists in the armed forces, and that there are ruthless brutes in the armed forces, is the same as saying that there are murderers and rapists and brutes in the civilian sector. There is no difference, it's a population, and within any population, you have these things. You can't claim to know the mind of the soldier or the Marine, Sophos, because you've never/will never be one.

Internet or not, you sound like a 7 year old by calling me Jimbo. I'm telling you this not because I'm offended or anything, but because it just makes you sound ridiculous and stupid. medjai's post expressed most of my points, but... I'd like to remind you again, sophos, that you're generalizing an entire nation of over 300 million inhabitants based on their international policy. Where I live, the Iraq war is very unpopular, and many people, myself included, are concerned with ending it. In the upcoming election many prioritize the candidates' positions on the war as a top issue. I believe the War on Terror is a good cause, but the Iraq war is irrelevant and ought to end. Don't think all the civilian casualties happen on purpose, committed by brutish killers. From what others tell me, discipline is a priority during training, and officers constantly tell soldiers to avoid harming civilians. However, one problem in this war is that the enemy often hides (and fights) in close proximity to innocent civilians. In this type of combat, both sides have a high risk of accidentally harming civilians. One guy my cousin served with was hospitalized for months because he suffered severe trauma after accidentally shooting a child during combat. I wouldn't call him a "kill& thrill" guy.

You have become quite the military man, with your justifications and presumptions, which are usually wrong and unfounded. So much so, that you're now fighting the very people you once trained. The irony is stupendous. Recognise the flag soldier; conscription is the law of this land. Fully Commissioned Officer; 1LT in the 1st Commando Battalion; toured in Brunei, Taiwan, East Timor, and even Iraq under MNF-I in OIF; four years active duty, and lifetime mandatory reserve duty. For Honour & Glory!.

Honestly, sophos, it's getting old: randomly calling Jimbo like it's some witty remark, telling people to wake up, and just trying to make some revolutionary speech every time you post. I wish you'd just make your point clear instead of masking it behind all this (for lack of a better word) fluff. America was attacked because Al Qaeda didn't want US troops in Saudi Arabia (even thought the Saudi government willingly let them in). These reactionaries want a Middle East cleansed of all non-Muslims, which is obviously a ridiculous idea in the modern world. And about the former allies, countries change their allies and enemies all the time, sometimes within a matter of months. It's called diplomacy. Things change, and the terrorists shed first blood.

You're as uninformed about your own country's politics as you are about slangs, Jimbo.
